Most materials clarinets are made from change dimensionally throughout the seasons causing clarinets to play, sound, and respond inconsistently. This is more true of the barrel than any other part of the clarinet. Stated another way dimensional changes higher in the bore produce greater effects in resistance, tone color, response, and tuning. The acoustical polymer the IBB barrels are made from eliminate these changes, providing the player with greater stability and a more uniformly predictable interface from day to day.
Our interchangeable precision bore barrels give the player the ability to change subtle resistance and tuning characteristics in the clarinet to better compliment particular reed/mouthpiece combinations. The hexagon and heptagon shaped inserts provide a band pass filter effect that preserves a darker sound with greater tonal depth at higher dynamic levels, helping reduce the brightness, thinness, and edginess in tone quality most players find undesirable.
The bore inserts can easily be swapped out, no tools required, in seconds. The top of the insert is marked with a colored stripe so you'll be able to easily see which end to put in the barrel.
Below is a review we received from Geoff Nudell, a top studio pro from Los Angeles, who had the chance to try the precision interchangeable bore barrels at the ICA convention in Fort Worth (July 2025).
"I must also mention having the pleasure of meeting Josh who has been working with the team to design clarinet barrels. I play-tested several of the barrels including the interchangeable bore barrels and several precision bore barrels made from an acoustical polymer. The consistency was truly remarkable with all of Josh's barrels which isn't surprising considering his engineering and manufacturing background. Knowing that these barrels are coming from a facility that primarily makes precision machine parts I think they will become the new standard for consistency and control that the industry will be measured against. With the interchangeable bore barrels they offer bore inserts, and more to come from what I'm told, that provide varying resistance and response so just about any clarinetist can find the ideal barrel for their personal playing preferences.

We'll be offering the barrel with three interchangeable bore inserts;
*Standard (cylindrical) bore with inverse taper
*Hexagon with no taper
*Hexagon with inverse taper
Barrels come in 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, and 68 mm's
We will be offering three additional bore inserts for the price of $49.95 each or
$120 if you purchase all three at once. These three inserts are;
*Heptagon, seven sided, with inverse taper
*Standard bore with no taper
*Standard bore with a less aggressive taper

The above video shows how the barrel inserts can be installed or removed in mere seconds. NO TOOLS REQUIRED!
All inserts are color coded to match with a specific length.

The inserts also feature a "dot code" on the top rim which tells you what kind of taper the insert has if it has one at all.

Your bore barrel inserts are stored in a compact tin with room for up to eight inserts in order to keep them safe and secure.
One barrel of your choice measuring 63, 64, 65, 66, 67, or 68 mm's and three interchangeable bore inserts in a customized tin;
